Abdullah's Grandson And My Shame

a very good narrative, the story as well as the simple straight way of writing. like someone said already, the things unsaid make the story more complete.

as for whether the father was right to accept the gift or not -
i've learned to see that circumstances dictate most of what one does - for most people, at least. a young man of 16 full of ideals of truth / justice / love / beauty thinks and acts differently than a family father worrying about how to make ends meet. and accepting a gift from someone who gives with the goodness of heart or from a sense of gratitude and/or duty - well, not accepting would probably have been an insult.

that doesn't mean the idealist son is in the wrong for despising the father's perceived lack of "self-respect"... i guess at different stages in life different perspectives of the same thing are inevitable.

that doesn't condone any "wrong" action either.

right or wrong, more often than not, turns out to be a matter of which side of teh thin red line you're on. sad but true!

once more, well-written!! :))

Is Everybody Talking About Me Yet?

now what do we have here - fame comes thrust upon you, does it?? ;-)

so you gonna be an urban-sanyasin on a soul-searching mission through this great land of ours... hmm.. sounds exciting!! so where does the fame part come in here? and admit it, mojo, you ENJOY being the centre of attention, be it actively or passively, and for whatever reasons.. lol!

so good luck with the quest, and enjoy the "stardom" while it last!! have your "thank you" speech ready for a rainy day... :-))

Zombie.

hello,

very passionately written a glaring issue which we all refuse to acknowledge in our "civilised society."

it  made me think of tracy chapman's song "behind the wall":

Last night I heard the screaming
Loud voices behind the wall
Another sleepless night for me
It wont do no good to call
The police
Always come late
If they come at all

And when they arrive
They say they cant interfere
With domestic affairs
Between a man and his wife
And as they walk out the door
The tears well up in her eyes

Last night I heard the screaming
Then a silence that chilled my soul
I prayed that I was dreaming
When I saw the ambulance in the road

And the policeman said
Im here to keep the peace
Will the crowd disperse
I think we all could use some sleep

My Second Book

well well... i see you are back with your funny-bone remarks on readership... lol.

who reads books based on the title? well, i did/do. not always, but quite a few times. and quite a few times the attractive/imaginative/alluring titles have led to a wonderful reading experience -
some examples would be

"one hundred years of solitude"
"catcher in the rye"
"paddy clarke ha ha ha"
 "to kill a mockingbird"
 "cry the beloved country"
 "the dogs of war"
 "for whom the bell tolls"
 "the way to dusty death"
"a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy"
"a good scent from a strange mountain"

... i can go on with some more names there! of course, at other times i've been fooled by titles as well. or excellent books whose names have been bland enough to have been easily ignored otherwise, eg. "the odessa file" - how objective and staid can a name get?

before i start on the "it's all about the packaging" line for the n-th time with a sigh, i'm tempted to think of book titles as a well-groomed face - makes you take a second look and in anticipation of the wealth waiting to discover beneath the covers - and you go "wow" if you actually find it there!

by the way, your three suggested titles were funny, though two of them seemed a bit familiar. i think there IS a book called "goddess of small things" (possibly a biography of arundhati roy?) and there definitely was an attempt at a graphic novel in urban india with the title "lady chatterjee's lover" - i don't think the book ever came out, though!

so have you thought a title for your third book yet? ;-))

- electric

p.s. - "the little prince" part was damn funny... but it is a BEAUTIFUL book, my friend! :)

I Too Walked On Water Once

I Too Walked On Water Once

beautiful... the content AND the expression... made me think of a song by toad-the-wet-sprocket (and i like it a lot!) ...

walk on the ocean
step on the stones
flesh becomes water
wood becomes bone
...
now we're back at the homestead
where the air makes you choke
and people dont know you
and trust is a joke
we don't even have pictures
just memories to hold
that grow sweeter each season
as we slowly grow old
...

:))
